Hardwood floors for houses that keep their history.
Installation, dustless refinishing, recoating and care for solid wood floors across the Olympic Peninsula — old-growth fir under the carpet in Port Townsend’s Uptown, rift-sawn white oak on a Bainbridge waterfront build, and most things in between. Four services, and the judgment to say which one you actually need.
Most people call asking for a full refinish. A good share of them want a screen and recoat instead — one day rather than one week, at a fraction of the cost. We tell you which, before we quote.
Site-finished Hardwood floor refinishingSanded to bare wood with HEPA dust containment, repaired board by board, then finished in waterborne urethane, Swedish finish or hardwax oil. Colour matched to the room, not to a catalogue. 02
Dustless Screen and recoatAbrade the finish you have, lay a fresh coat over it. No dust, no stain change, back on the floor the next morning. Only works while the finish is still intact — we test first. 03
One day Cleaning & maintenanceLow-VOC, pH-neutral cleaning with no ammonia, bleach, wax or oil soap. Safe for the dog and the toddler the same afternoon. 04

Before & after
A century of carpet, and the fir underneath it.

Red oak, twenty years of pets and traffic
Sand, water and dogs had beaten up a 20-year-old red oak floor. The old floor-heat registers were patched in with matching stock, the whole floor sanded and finished at a low sheen. The owner’s words: “they look brand new.”

New and old, matched
New hardwood woven into an existing main floor, then the whole thing sanded and refinished as one surface so the seam disappears. Reasonable quote, crew that cleans up before the furniture goes back.
Service area
One bridge, two ferries, and about ninety minutes of shoreline.
The shop is in Port Hadlock, ten minutes south of Port Townsend. We work the radius that still makes sense on a trailer — north to Port Angeles, east across the Hood Canal Bridge into Kitsap, and onto Bainbridge often enough that the ferry crew knows the van.
Beyond that list we still travel for larger restoration work. Ask.
Drive times are from the shop door in ordinary traffic, allowing for the Hood Canal Bridge.

Read all reviews on Google“Northwest Hardwood Flooring refinished the original fir flooring in our home, which is well over 100 years old. They did an amazing job and our floors look great. They were efficient, professional, and easy to work with.”
“Andy and his crew did an amazing job on my 20+ years old red oak hardwoods. Sand, water, pets and traffic had really beat up these floors. They did a superb job on patching in flooring to cover my old, no longer used floor heat registers. Great low sheen finish — they look brand new!”
“Andy and his crew did a fabulous job! Andy communicates well, is very reliable and most important, the floor looks great! This is the second floor that Northwest Hardwood has done for me and I would definitely hire him again.”

Estimates are free, unhurried, and specific.
Tell us the square footage, the species if you know it, and what the floor has been through. We will tell you whether it needs a sand, a recoat, or nothing at all this year.
We walk the floor, take moisture readings, and send a written scope with a fixed number. No pressure, no same-day discount. Open 7 to 6, seven days a week.
